It's been awhile since Artreach has presented a show by The Second Step Players in Waterford, CT. Their newest project, Stand Up For Mental Health - CT, will be presented at The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center on September 21 - 24 at 7:30 pm. The event will be held in the Blue Gene's Pub, the little building across from "The Barn." The Pub will be "dry" on the nights of the show. Coffee, lemonade, and dessert items will be for sale.
This is stand-up comedy created and performed by people who have experienced psychiatric issues and deftly navigated the path to recovery. It is sure to both delight and inform.

Since 1985, The Second Step Players (a program of Artreach, Inc.) have written and performed sketch comedy about what it's like to live with a mental illness, and now we have added stand-up comedy to our educational tool kit. As we delve into our psyches and bring our inner "stuff" into the light, the writing process allows us to take an objective look at ourselves and mine for comic gold. Such open honesty in front of an audience is empowering and plays an important part in the recovery process.
The healing energy of laughter provides a forum for players and audience members to engage in a dialogue about the myths surrounding psychiatric illnesses. Furthermore, the troupe players serve as an inspirational role model for other people with psychiatric disabilities.
Please visit our website at www.artreachheals.org for more information about The Second Step Players as well as the other offerings of Artreach, which include Artreach Recreation, Artistic Development, and Wellness & Recovery programs.
PLEASE NOTE: This performance is not suitable for children due to adult themes. Don't worry - the Holiday Show is coming, and is family friendly! |
