STAND UP FOR MENTAL HEALTH - CT, 2013
April 19 in Willimantic, April 20 in Middletown, April 21 in Norwich
Join Norwich's The Second Step Players and Vancouver's David Granirer for an evening of hilarious, authentic, mental health related stand up comedy! CT’s stigma-busting theater troupe, The Second Step Players, has teamed up with David to create Stand Up For Mental Health - Connecticut. In David’s Stand Up For Mental Health course, mental health consumers turn their problems into comedy, then perform their original acts as a way of building confidence and fighting public stigma. “We use comedy to give consumers a powerful voice and help reduce the stigma and discrimination around mental illness” says Granirer. “The idea is that laughing at our setbacks raises us above them. It makes people go from despair to hope, and hope is crucial to anyone struggling with adversity. Studies prove that hopeful people are more resilient and also tend to live longer, healthier lives.”
Please note that this show is PG-13 for some mild “language” and adult topics (pretty tame, just take it into consideration!) ALL TICKETS ARE HALF-PRICE from last year's ticket prices! We decided to share the discount with everyone, across the board, in order to enable more people to get the messages that Recovery Happens, and Creativity Heals! Call Becca Atkins at 860-887-0014 with any questions. (less)
